Why is Hezbollah fighting Israel?

From the inception of Hezbollah to the present, the elimination of the State of Israel has been one of Hezbollahs’ primary goals. Their 1985 Arabic-language manifesto states that “our struggle will only end when Israel is obliterated.”1

Today there is violence because Israel and Hezbollah are fighting in Lebanon. Hezbollah has a significant presence in Lebanon, and using it as a base to attack Israel. Many Lebanese people are forced to support Hezbollah, because of its influence throughout the country. Today, Hezbollah have asked for peace, but they continue firing rockets into
Israel.

I invite everyone to pray for the peace of Israel. Israel will not be wiped out. It will remain standing. It is the apple of God’s eye.

Why can Hezbollah not see this? Why do they put so many innocent people at risk?

On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

Zechariah 12:3 (NIV)
